25th February 1972, ‘Notting Hill Feature of Films From the Electric’, ‘Kensington News and West London Times’ p5
NOTTING HILL will be a centre of attraction during the June London Boroughs’ Arts Festivals.
The Electric Cinema will put on three weeks of films which either feature Notting Hill, or were shot in Notting Hill.
Major films shot in the area will be shown, including “Otley,” which shows Tom Courtenay in Portobello Road; “Performance” with Mick Jagger; “Leo the Last” with Marcella Mastroianni; and the underground film “Duffer.”
The Electric will also show a selection of films that followed the Notting Hill riots in the late 50’s. These include “West 11,” a feature-length film described by the Electric’s Peter Howden as a sociological drama; and another sociological drama-cum-thriller called “Sapphire.”
“Getting It Straight in Notting Hill Gate” features “characters” from the area including the group Quintessence. This half-hour film was produced in Notting Hill by Eyeball Films, now defunct.
Amateur film-makers, or semi-pros, who work in Notting Hill are invited by the Electric management to come forward with their offerings.
