The event was held on 30th March 1971. Despite having run two items announcing the event already, weekly community newsletter People’s News ran this advert for a benefit event supporting their own community centre, without the day of the week on it. ‘SAT’ is written in red biro in the copy of the People’s News published on the day before the benefit, which is archived in Kensington & Chelsea library’s local history collection.

The People’s Centre was in All Saint’s Hall by the Notting Hill People’s Association, emerging from the London Free School which had been set up in the basement of 26 Powis Terrace by LSE lecturer Peter Jenner and freelance photographer John “Hoppy” Hopkins. In its brief life, the London Free School in Notting Hill also had a role in the continuation of the Notting Hill Carnival, and the founding of International Times and the UFO Club.
